Although Paris is considered one of the most expensive European cities, here you can find cozy restaurants with moderate prices, cozy atmosphere and excellent service.
- Le Suffren (Le Suffren)
The restaurant, founded back in 1900, is located on the street of the same name, a 10-minute walk from the Eiffel Tower. The cozy hall, decorated in warm colors, is always full of people, primarily native Parisians.
Le Suffren is known primarily as a fish restaurant, where the freshest seafood is served at moderate prices. An assortment of oysters, shrimps, and mussels can be ordered for 30-40 euros, and one portion is enough for two people.
In addition, there are many tasty budget dishes on the restaurant’s menu. Some regulars come here especially to try onion soup with toasted cheese crust (9 euros), which is considered to be one of the best in Paris. Hearty salads (15 euros), prepared with delicacy products (foie gras, crawfish shakes, king prawns) are very popular.
- La Tentation des Gourmets.
Located in the Montparnasse district near the train station, this restaurant’s name translates to “Gourmet’s Temptation”. In a spacious space decorated in a discreet, modern style, you can enjoy perfectly prepared French dishes such as scallop tartare (St. Pierre) with spicy herbs, duck breast stewed with honey and cider, baked goat cheese in sesame breading.
The traditional desserts served here are also famous: Floating Islands, chocolate fondue with English cream, Colonel sherbet ice cream with vodka and lemon. During the day, visitors are offered a complex menu (formule) for 13.5 euros, which includes an appetizer, main course and dessert. Its composition changes daily depending on the availability of products that the chefs buy at the market. After paying 23 euros, a visitor can choose three dishes from specially marked items on the main menu.
- Chez Prosper (Chez Prosper)
The restaurant is located in the lively 11th arrondissement of Paris, not far from the Nation metro station. Behind a huge glass window there is a room decorated in the tradition of a typical Parisian brasserie with a tiled floor, wooden furniture and walls decorated with old posters.
Vegetarians should hardly come to Chez Prosper: the menu is dominated by meat dishes. Facility’s specialty is a 300-gram entrecote “Prosper”, the degree of roasting of which is determined by the client (with blood, medium, well roasted). The meat is served accompanied by fries, salad and a choice of sauce. Popular dishes are also beef Burgundy, veal liver with green butter, grilled sausages with mashed potatoes and others.
The signature dessert, Madame Prosper’s Caprice, which includes meringues, whipped cream, hot chocolate, vanilla ice cream or the traditional apple tarte tatin, is worth a try.
For those who are in a hurry or want to save money, a set lunch is available for 11 euros. It consists of a huge portion of hearty salad, smoked ham and a glass of wine.
- Le Moliere (Le Moliere)
Le Moliere is a pancake restaurant located near the Boulevard Saint-Germain. It is housed in a historic building, next to which there was once a ball court where the great playwright Moliere used to visit.
Facility’s menu is quite extensive. It offers a large selection of buckwheat pancakes (galettes) with a variety of tasty and hearty fillings (“Moliere” – with foie gras, caramelized apples and fig confit, “Rustic” – with smoked sausage, camembert cream and fried potatoes with onions). You can also order a hot sandwich, pasta, mussels (fried or in sauce), meat dish.
Sweet pancakes (with Nutella, salted caramel, chestnut cream), ice cream, fruit salads prevail among desserts. The restaurant has an excellent bar with a large wine and cocktail list.
At lunchtime, visitors are offered several options of set lunches costing 16 euros. They include a hearty pancake (pasta, hot sandwich), a dessert from the main menu and a drink (mineral water, cider or wine). From 3 to 6 p.m., the restaurant offers happy hours: for only 5.90 euros, visitors can enjoy a sweet pancake with two toppings and a hot soft drink of their choice.
- Pic&Chic (Pic & Chic)
The restaurant, located in a quiet area of the popular tourist quarter of Mare, was opened in 2007. Its creator was the former owner of a textile company who decided to retire from business and devote himself to cooking. Since the restaurateur’s favorite dish was kebabs, they were the basis of the menu.
Visitors are offered many kinds of dishes cooked on skewers (shrimp, flounder fillet, duck, lamb, cheese with bacon). You can order them individually (each kebab costs 1.90 euros) or as a set. The second offer is much more favorable: for 5.90 euros you can get 2, and for 8.40 – 4, and for 11 – six skewers of your choice, accompanied by flavored Thai rice, sauce and a carbonated drink.
The kebabs can be complemented with a variety of salads (for example, the traditional “Caesar”), delicious pastries and desserts.
