The Isle of Cité is located in the middle of the Seine River, in the central part of Paris. It is this island that laid the foundation for the brilliant French capital.

Back in the three hundredth year BC, the first settlement was founded on the island, which was called Lutetia. In the fifties, Lutetia was captured by the Romans and erected a defensive fortress on the island. Later, the Frankish kings rebuilt this military structure into a luxurious palace. Only the Conciergerie Prison and the Chapel of St. Chapel have survived from the former architectural ensemble. The most famous building on the island of Cité is the famous Cathedral of Our Lady of Paris, to get into it, you have to stand in a long line.

Unfortunately, not much has been preserved from the ancient city. The famous Baron Haussmann, the prefect of Paris under Napoleon III, destroyed many historical objects, implementing his plan of reconstruction and renovation of the city. He did not spare and the island of Cité, here was erased from the ground as many as 90 ancient streets. Only two corners of the old town have been preserved: the Ver-Galan square and Place Dauphine.

On the island is located and the oldest hospital in the city Oteuil-Dieu de Paris. However, the building where the hospital is located now dates back to the end of the nineteenth century, earlier buildings were destroyed by fires.

We invite you to take a sightseeing tour of Paris During which you will be able to familiarize yourself with many other sights of the capital in the company of our guide.
