The ancient prison of the Conciergerie is located on the Isle of Cité. It is one of the oldest buildings in the city, its construction dates back to the time of King Chlodwig (6th century) and it was the Conciergerie that was the first monarch’s residence in Paris. After the French kings moved to the Louvre, the Conciergerie became the Palace of Justice, where cells were set up for political criminals and murderers. The Gothic building is breathtaking in its beauty and scope, but most importantly, each of the building’s towers, each of the rooms have a fascinating history. Marie Antoinette was kept in one of the cells of the Conciergerie before her execution (the unfortunate queen spent 76 long days in prison), the spy Mata Hari heard her sentence in these walls, the famous trial of Emile Zola was held here. Now tourists can see the cell where the queen was kept, the Gendarmes’ Hall with Gothic vaults and columns, which has remained almost unchanged until nowadays, the corridor where prisoners walked, the clock tower, where the oldest clocks in Paris are located, working to this day, and many other interesting rooms and exhibits. We invite you to a sightseeing tour of Paris During which you will be able to familiarize yourself with many other sights of the capital in the company of a Russian-speaking guide.
