A couple visiting Paris for the first time will be equally enthusiastic about visiting the Grand Opera House and the Royal Tuileries Park, one of the favorite promenade spots for Parisians and tourists alike.
Lovers should definitely visit Montmartre and its streets, where Renoir and Picasso, Georges Sand, Toulouse Lautrec and Hugo, and other equally famous writers and artists once walked. However, then priorities can be divided. Representatives of the fair sex will not resist the chance to see their reflection in the mirrored windows of shopping centers and boutiques, an endless string stretching along the Champs Elysees. And respectable men with much more pleasure will visit one of the largest car exhibitions in Europe, where you can see the latest products of the leading car brands of the planet – the International Paris Motor Show, which is located about 4 kilometers from the Eiffel Tower.
A little history
The French Automobile Club, founded in 1895, emerged shortly after the first automobiles appeared. Contributing to the popularization of a new type of transport, the club members in 1898 organized the first “International Automobile, Bicycle and Sports Exhibition”, where more than 220 exhibits were presented to the attention of gawkers on the area of 6000 sq. m. Since 1901 and for the next half a century the Grand Palace became the venue for the annual exhibitions. With the development of automobile transportation, interest in it grew exponentially, and the Grand Palais could no longer accommodate the collection of exhibits, so truck models began to be exhibited on the Avenue Cours la Reine and on the Esplanade des Invalides. The “Golden Time” of the Paris Motor Show can be called the 20s of the last century, when the eyes of the whole world were attracted to it, without exaggeration. Even then, the exhibition was accompanied by banquets, gala concerts and music festivals, and today the motor show has become a prestigious gala and a gathering place for the world elite of secular society.
Mondial de l ‘Auto” has known other times, the economic difficulties of the 30s and the following post-war years did not slow down the functioning of the motor show, which was forced to be held with a biannual periodicity. However, time takes its course, and in 1988 the exhibition changed its name to “Mondial de l’Auto”, which emphasized its international status. Today, hundreds of manufacturers from dozens of countries apply for participation in the motor show, and the Paris Motor Show is one of the most prestigious, large-scale and expected world exhibitions of automobile novelties.
How to get to the exhibition
To be one of the first to see the latest concept cars of the world’s leading car companies, it is best to get off at the metro station “Paris Expo Porte de Versailles”, in the immediate vicinity of which is the exhibition center “Paris Expo”, founded in 1923 by Marquis Albert de Dion specifically for the “Mondial de l’otto”. Today “Paris Expo Porte de Versailles” is one of the largest exhibition centers in Europe. Its pavilions annually host more than two hundred different, but invariably interesting events related to culture, politics, technology and science, which are attended by about six million visitors every year.
The 2016 Paris Motor Show, detailing cars, including premieres of the latest models, accessories and spare parts, starts on October 1 and lasts until the 16th of the same month. You have a real chance to get into the world of the automotive future, get acquainted with its new trends, and see what car enthusiasts will be driving in a few months or even years.
