The Opéra Garnier (Grande Opéra) is one of the most beautiful buildings in Paris. The design of the building belongs to the architect Charles Garnier, who also designed the luxurious interiors. The construction of the building took fifteen years. The construction survived the war of 1870, the fall of the Empire, the Paris Commune. The grand opening took place on January 5, 1875, with unfinished places in the building, for example, the Mirror Rotunda, the Imperial Pavilion or the smoking gallery. The attention of visitors to the Theater is immediately attracted by the thirty-meter grand staircase made of red green and white marble, decorated with gilding and even precious stones. The chic Grand Foyer with two fireplaces and unique mosaic patterns, the Grand Hall with velvet walls, images of cherubs and gold leaf are also striking. It is worth paying attention to the ceilings of the theater, they were painted in 1964 by the great Marc Chagall. The Opera has a library and a museum, where models of theater scenery, drawings, paintings and various exhibits telling about the history of the Paris Opera are kept. You can get into the Opera building not only with tickets to a concert, but also as part of a tour group.
