The Cathedral of Our Lady of Paris rises on the Isle of Cité, on the site where the city’s first Christian temple, the Basilica of St. Stephen, was located. The cathedral was built with the expectation that at the solemn services in it could fit all the inhabitants of Paris (at the time of laying the foundation it is about ten thousand people). The construction of the grandiose building stretched for almost two centuries (from 1163 to 1345), in the architecture of the temple traces a mixture of Romanesque style and Gothic. One of the features of the building is the absence of internal walls, the space is organized by columns, arches, stained glass. Notre Dame de Paris for many centuries was the place where coronations, marriages, christenings and funerals of members of monarchical families were held. During the Paris Commune, the church was partially destroyed. Maximilien Robespierre, the author of the revolutionary terror, personally ordered the beheading of the statues of kings adorning the facade. In 1802, by decree of Napoleon I, the Cathedral was returned to the Catholic Church. Restoration works were carried out: stained glass windows were restored, the gallery of kings was restored, the gallery of chimeras decorating the facade of the building was added. We invite you to a sightseeing tour of Paris During which you will be able to familiarize yourself with many other sights of the capital in the company of a Russian-speaking guide.
