Dali in Paris<\/span><\/h4>\n

Salvador Dali first visited the French capital in 1927. Here he met Pablo Picasso, Andr\u00e9 Breton, Max Jacob and other artists.<\/p>\n

Somewhat later, in the early 30s of the last century, the young Catalan moved to Paris. The reason for this decision was a meeting with the wife of surrealist poet Paul Eluard – the fatal beauty Gala (Elena Diakonova), who became a muse, model and the only woman in the artist’s life.<\/p>\n

Initially, Gala and Salvador moved into Paul \u00c9luard’s apartment on rue B\u00e9carel. Later, they changed addresses, moving to more and more prestigious neighborhoods as their wealth increased.<\/p>\n

\"Dali<\/p>\n

The artist and his wife repeatedly visited Paris even after the end of the Second World War. They preferred to stay in the royal suite of the Hotel Le Meurice, located on the prestigious Rue de Rivoli.<\/p>\n

Salvador Dali Museum in Montmartre<\/span><\/h4>\n

Although Salvador Deli’s many Parisian addresses do not include homes in Montmartre<\/a>, he must have been in this picturesque neighborhood, visiting friends and sketching.<\/p>\n

This influenced the decision to open the Dal\u00ed Museum in Montmartre, near Place du Tertre, the traditional gathering place for artists.<\/p>\n

Main exhibition<\/span><\/h4>\n

About 300 works of the great Catalan artist are exhibited in the museum space, among them fragile crystal figurines, poetic drawings and monumental statues made of bronze, extravagant furniture created according to the artist’s sketches.<\/p>\n

Perhaps these works are not as famous as the paintings of Salvador Dali, but they help to reveal new facets of the talent of the genius surrealist, who throughout his life experimented with different techniques, materials, colors and paints.<\/p>\n

Among the most significant works exhibited in the Paris museum are the sculptures “Current Clock”, “Space Elephant”, “Alice in Wonderland”; engravings illustrating Cervantes’ immortal novel “Don Quixote”, a sofa in the shape of the lips of American movie actress Mae West.<\/p>\n

The Dal\u00ed Museum constantly hosts exhibitions, on topics related to different areas of the multifaceted Catalan. Notable events include such expositions as:<\/p>\n

  • “Dali – Holograms and Optical Effects.”<\/li>\n
  • “Golden Dali and Gala Jewelry.”<\/li>\n
  • “Dali on the Wall” is an exhibition of works by 22 street artists.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Atmosphere<\/span><\/h4>\n

    The museum is not too large in size, which is intended to help visitors better experience the special surreal atmosphere of the place. The sculptural and graphic works, tastefully placed in the spaces, are skillfully complemented by sound and visual effects. Visitors can hear the voice of Dal\u00ed himself, see newsreel footage and advertisements depicting the great artist.<\/p>\n

    • The museum can be visited every day, including holidays. The price of a full ticket is 11.5 euros; discounts are available for children over 8 years old, students, pensioners and disabled people.<\/li>\n
    • The Dal\u00ed Museum in Paris, opened in 1991, is the only museum in France entirely dedicated to the work of the genius surrealist.<\/li>\n
