It was once a dreary marshy area, which was improved by Catherine de Medici. The place became popular among Parisians: it was fashionable to take carriage rides along the Champs Elysees, and the first houses appeared here only in the eighteenth century. The street borrowed its name from Greek mythology. The Greeks called the Champs Elysees a place where the souls of heroes who had passed away rested. Now Champs Elysees is the most prestigious street of the city. Prices for real estate in this area is simply unreal. Among the main attractions of the street are the Elysee Palace, the residence of the President of the Republic, and the Arc de Triomphe.
