The Place de la Concorde, unlike classic European squares, is not surrounded on all sides by houses, and it offers a wonderful view of the sights of Paris: the Champs-Elysees, the Eiffel Tower, and the Jardin des Tulleries. Many unique objects are located on the square itself. It is the obelisk of Ramses the Second, presented by the Luxor prince Mehmet Ali to the King of France Philippe-Louis, surrounded by gorgeous fountains, monumental statues symbolizing French cities, the famous sculptures of “Marley’s horses” and many others. The most important historical events that directly affected the development of the country took place on the Place de la Concorde. The decision to build the Place de la Concorde belonged to Louis XV, and the royal idea was realized by the architect Gabriel. The monumental image of Louis for many years decorated Place de la Concorde, and then, in place of the sculpture of the brilliant monarch, the Statue of Liberty was erected, and not far from the terraces of the Tulri garden there was a guillotine, where Louis XV’s grandson – Louis XVI – was executed, followed by other members of the monarch’s family and representatives of the highest aristocracy. The Place de la Concorde is a must-see for travelers interested in European history and art. We invite you to a sightseeing tour of Paris during which you will be able to familiarize yourself with many other sights of the capital in the company of a Russian-speaking guide.
